The Ombudsperson for Children

A local, independent children's ombudsman

The Ombudsman for Children is a non-profit organisation. We work locally, regionally and nationally, always close to children. Our office is located in Uppsala.

We have a non-profit public partnership with Uppsala Municipality and Region Uppsala.

We are completely independent from local, regional and national authorities. This gives us great opportunities to act in favour of the rights of children and young people.

To create a democratic, peaceful and sustainable society, the voices of children and young people need to be heard. Decisions are better when those affected are involved. We want to empower children as rights holders.

We create opportunities for children and young people to have their say. We organise meetings between children/young people and decision-makers, run expert groups and offer children and young people the opportunity to use their freedom of expression.

Since 2006 we have been publishing the magazine Word, made by and for young people in Uppsala.

We also run youth expert groups and host young people working in the summer to advocate for change.

Decisions where children are concerned

The older and more mature the child, the more the decision-maker must care about the opinions.
