We bring problems to the attention of the public, businesses and decision-makers - and provide constructive solutions. Much work remains to be done.
Children's rights are a prerequisite for sustainability and society therefore needs to be shaped in accordance with the rights of the child.
We work to strengthen children's rights locally, regionally and nationally. We draw the attention of the public, organisations and decision-makers to problems - and contribute constructive solutions.
Our work includes scrutinising the work of municipalities and regions on children's rights. We want to make sure that no child falls through the cracks of those charged with looking after the best interests of the child.
Our special position as an independent children's ombudsman is a prerequisite for our advocacy work.
Some questions
Some examples of issues we have worked on:
- Free emergency care for all children living in Sweden. Our work brought the need to change the law to the attention of the Riksdag Committee on Justice, and in 2024 the minister responsible received a written question.
- Children with autism or ADHD should receive better treatment in schools and social services.
- Children's vulnerability online, especially in exposure accounts, should be raised by people who encounter children who are unwell.
- With us you get young people in summer jobs pursue important issues. 2023 they influenced politicians so that everyone under the age of 20 can travel for free with UL summer 2024.
Arguments in favour of independent, local children's ombudsmen
A local independent children's ombudsman can provide guidance and advice to citizens and staff, educate and inform about children's rights, influence opinion and policy, and strengthen the voice of children and young people.
